# Add a gallery section to your site: Gallery section setup

The Gallery section displays a collection of images on a page of your Fourthwall site, in a grid or a horizontal slider. Visitors can click any image to view it full-size in a built-in lightbox. Use a gallery to showcase your work, highlight products, share behind-the-scenes photos, or display other visual content that supports your brand.

## How do I add a Gallery section to a page?

Add a Gallery section from the section picker in the site designer Layout tab. The section appears at the bottom of the page and its settings open automatically.

1. In your Fourthwall dashboard, go to [**Site design** > **Layout**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/layout/index/?redirect).
2. Use the dropdown at the top of the left panel to select the page where you want to add the gallery.
3. Click **(+) Add page section** to open the section picker.
4. Find **Gallery** under the **Layout** category.
5. Click **Add**.

**UI Path:** Dashboard > Site design > Layout > Add page section > Layout > Gallery > Add
**Expected Result:** The Gallery section appears at the bottom of the selected page and its settings panel opens.

## How do I upload images to the gallery?

Upload images from the image upload area in the Gallery section settings panel. You can upload multiple images at once.

1. Open the Gallery section settings panel.
2. Click the image upload area.
3. Select your photos.

Images appear in the gallery in the order you add them. Drag images to reorder them.

## How do I choose between Grid and Slider display modes?

The Gallery section supports two display modes: Grid and Slider. Select your preferred mode from the **Display** options in the section settings panel.

- **Grid**. All images display at once in a multi-column layout. Use the **Grid** control in the settings panel to set the number of columns. More columns show smaller images. Fewer columns show larger images.
- **Slider**. Images display in a horizontal carousel that visitors scroll through. Slider works well when you have many images and want to keep the section compact.

## How do I set the aspect ratio of gallery images?

The **Aspect ratio** setting controls how images are cropped within the gallery. Choose a preset such as square, portrait, or landscape to keep the gallery consistent regardless of the original image dimensions.

- If all images share the same proportions, any preset looks clean.
- If images vary in size, choose a fixed aspect ratio to get a uniform grid.

## How does the lightbox work?

The lightbox opens a clicked gallery image full-size in an overlay. From the lightbox, visitors can navigate forward and backward through the entire gallery without closing it.

The lightbox is ON by default for every new Gallery section. To turn it off, disable it in the section settings panel. With the lightbox off, images stay in place when clicked.

## Best practices for gallery images

To get the best results, follow these image guidelines:

- Upload images that are at least 1200px wide.
- Use a consistent aspect ratio across all photos.
- Use JPG or WebP formats, which load fastest.
- Do NOT upload images larger than 5 MB each. Compress them first to keep the page loading quickly.
- Keep each gallery section under 30 images. There is no hard limit on image count, but many high-resolution images slow down the page.

## Which pages support the Gallery section?

The Gallery section is available on the **Home** page, **product** pages, and **collection** pages through the full section picker. Custom pages support a smaller set of sections. If **Gallery** does not appear in the section picker on a custom page, that page type does NOT support it.

## How many images can I add to a gallery?

There is no hard limit on the number of images in a gallery. Adding many high-resolution images can slow down your page. For best performance, use fewer than 30 images per gallery section and compress files before uploading.

## Is the lightbox on by default?

Yes. The lightbox is enabled by default for every new Gallery section. You can turn it off at any time in the section settings panel.
