# Use AI to edit your site

Every section in the Site Designer has an Ask for edits button. Type a request in plain language, and Eli, the Fourthwall AI chatbot, builds a brand new page section or edits the one you already selected.

## Before you start

The Ask for edits button only appears when Eli is enabled on your shop. Eli is a Fourthwall Pro feature, so shops on the free plan don't see the button until they upgrade. Turn Eli on from **Account** > **AI** in your Fourthwall dashboard. For full setup steps, see [How to Enable or Disable Eli](/manage-my-shop/shop-settings/enable-or-disable-eli).

## How to use Ask for edits on desktop

On desktop, the Ask for edits button sits in the toolbar overlay that appears when you hover over a section in the Site Designer.

1. In your Fourthwall dashboard, go to **Site design** > **Layout**.
2. Hover over the section you want to change. The inspector toolbar appears at the top of the section.
3. Click **Ask for edits**. An inline text input opens in the toolbar.
4. Type your request and submit it.

Your request opens in Eli with the section already loaded as context. Eli knows exactly which section to work on, so you don't need to describe where the section is or what it currently contains.

## How to use Ask for edits on mobile

On mobile, the Ask for edits field lives in each section's menu instead of the hover toolbar used on desktop.

1. Open **Site design** > **Layout** on your mobile device.
2. In the Layout panel, tap the three-dot menu on the section you want to change.
3. Select **Ask for edits** and enter your request.

Submitting the request opens Eli so you can review and apply the change, the same as on desktop.

## What you can ask Eli to do

Ask for edits handles two kinds of requests: building a brand new section, or changing a section that's already on the page.

- **Build a new section.** Ask Eli to add a section, such as "Add a featured collection below the banner."
- **Edit an existing section.** Ask Eli to change the section you selected, such as "Make this banner headline shorter and add a Shop now button."

Because the request carries the selected section's context, Eli's edits stay focused on that section instead of touching other parts of the page.

## Why don't I see the Ask for edits button?

The Ask for edits button only appears when Eli is enabled. Eli is a Fourthwall Pro feature. Go to **Account** > **AI** in your Fourthwall dashboard to turn it on, or upgrade to Fourthwall Pro if you're on the free plan.

## Can I ask AI to create a section that isn't on the page yet?

Yes. Ask for edits can build a brand new page section, not just edit existing ones. Describe the section you want and Eli adds it to the page for you.

## Does Ask for edits work on mobile?

Yes. On mobile, open the three-dot menu on a section in the Layout panel and select **Ask for edits**. Submitting your request opens Eli, the same as on desktop.
