# Importing Content from Patreon

Fourthwall can import your existing Patreon posts, tiers, and media directly into your memberships. Your back catalog carries over so members who follow you to Fourthwall still have access to the content they paid for. The import is triggered when you add a Patreon social link to your dashboard settings.

## What gets imported

Fourthwall supports the following Patreon post types:

- **Text posts.** Written content, including HTML formatting.
- **Image posts.** Photos and image files attached to posts.
- **Audio posts.** Audio files and podcast episodes.
- **Video posts.** Uploaded video files and Mux-hosted streams.
- **YouTube embeds.** Posts containing embedded YouTube videos.
- **YouTube livestreams.** Recorded YouTube livestream posts.
- **Link posts.** Posts with shared links.
- **Poll posts.** Community polls and their options.

Along with posts, the importer can bring over your membership tiers, including tier names, descriptions, pricing, images, and associated perks.

## What does not carry over

Some Patreon data cannot be imported:

- **Subscriber/patron lists.** Existing Patreon members are not migrated. They need to re-subscribe on Fourthwall.
- **Comments and reactions.** Post engagement data stays on Patreon.
- **Earnings and payment history.** Financial records remain with Patreon.
- **Non-YouTube video embeds.** Only YouTube embed URLs are supported. Vimeo, Twitch, and other embed types are skipped.
- **Posts you don't have access to view.** The importer only transfers posts marked as viewable in your Patreon export data.

## How the import works

The import uses data exported from Patreon. Here is what happens during the migration:

1. **Tier creation.** If you choose to import tiers, Fourthwall creates matching membership tiers with the same names, descriptions, and pricing. Tier images and custom perks are carried over. Only published tiers with a price of $1.00 or more are imported.
2. **Post creation.** Each Patreon post becomes a Fourthwall membership post. The importer maps the post title, description, tags, and media to Fourthwall's post format.
3. **Access rules.** If tiers are imported, the importer preserves tier-based access. Posts available to specific Patreon tiers are assigned to matching Fourthwall tiers. If no specific tier mapping exists, the post is made available to all tiers.
4. **Publish dates.** Each imported post keeps its original Patreon publish date, so your content timeline stays intact.
5. **Duplicate detection.** If a post with the same title and publish date already exists in your Fourthwall memberships, the importer skips it. You can safely re-run the import without creating duplicates.

Imported posts are published with notifications disabled, so your members won't be flooded with alerts for older content.

## How to start the import

The Patreon content import is surfaced as a suggestion when you add a Patreon link to your social links.

1. Go to [**Settings**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/?redirect) in your dashboard.
2. Add your Patreon URL under **Social links**. Fourthwall will detect your Patreon connection and suggest importing your content.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to upload your Patreon export data and select what you want to import (posts, tiers, or both).
4. Review your imported content under [**Memberships**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/memberships/overview/?redirect) once the import completes.

Before starting the import, make sure your Fourthwall memberships are set up with at least a basic tier structure.

## After the import

Once your content is imported, take a few minutes to review:

- **Check your tiers.** Verify that tier names, prices, and perks look right. You can adjust them under [**Memberships > Perks**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/memberships/perks/?redirect).
- **Review imported posts.** Browse your posts feed to confirm media and formatting came through correctly.
- **Update access settings.** If you restructured your tiers during the move, update which tiers can see which posts.
- **Let your community know.** Share the news with your Patreon audience so they can re-subscribe on Fourthwall and pick up where they left off.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I import content from Patreon more than once?

Yes. The importer detects existing posts by title and publish date, so duplicate content is skipped automatically. You can re-run the import if you missed anything the first time.

### Will my existing Patreon subscribers be migrated?

No. Subscriber lists are not imported. Your patrons need to create new memberships on your Fourthwall shop. Share your Fourthwall membership link with them to make the transition smooth.

### What happens to posts that the importer can't process?

Unsupported post types (like non-YouTube video embeds) are skipped. The import continues with the remaining posts. You can check which posts were skipped and recreate them manually if needed.

### Do imported posts trigger notifications to my members?

No. All imported posts are published with notifications turned off. Your members won't receive email or push alerts for content that was imported from Patreon.

### Are my Patreon tier prices preserved exactly?

Fourthwall matches the USD price from your Patreon tier and automatically calculates equivalent prices in other supported currencies (EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, and more). The tier name, description, and image are preserved.
