# Migrate From Patreon to Fourthwall Memberships

Fourthwall Memberships lets you replace Patreon with a unified platform that combines merch, digital products, and memberships in one shop. There is no automated import tool, so migration requires manual tier setup, content recreation, and a subscriber communication plan. Most creators complete the full process in 6 to 10 weeks.

This guide assumes you already have a Fourthwall account with Memberships enabled. For initial setup, see the Memberships quick start guide.

## Why creators move to Fourthwall

Fourthwall charges 0% platform fee on membership revenue (standard payment processing fees still apply). Patreon charges 5% to 12% depending on the plan.

- **Unified platform.** Sell merch, digital products, and memberships from a single shop with no separate tools needed
- **Built-in merch fulfillment.** Offer physical products as membership perks without managing a separate Print-on-Demand (POD) provider
- **Full shop customization.** Your membership page lives on your own branded site with a custom domain, not a third-party marketplace
- **Integrated community tools.** Direct messages, locked messages, member badges, and post series are built in
- **Full data ownership.** You keep your supporter list, analytics, and content at any time

## How to map Patreon tiers to Fourthwall tiers

List every Patreon tier you currently offer with its price, perks, and active patron count. For each Patreon tier, create a matching Fourthwall tier.

1. Go to [**Memberships**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/memberships/perks/?redirect) in your dashboard
2. Click **Create tier**
3. Set the tier name and monthly price to match your Patreon tier
4. Add the same perks using Fourthwall's perk system
5. Repeat for each tier

If you have 6 or more Patreon tiers, consider consolidating to 3 to 4 tiers. Fewer tiers improve conversion because supporters spend less time comparing options.

**Perk mapping from Patreon to Fourthwall:**

- **Early access content** becomes tier-locked posts with scheduled publishing
- **Discord roles** becomes the Fourthwall Discord integration with tier-based role assignment
- **Physical merch rewards** becomes members-only products, a built-in perk type
- **Polls and voting** becomes members-only posts with engagement features
- **Monthly digital downloads** becomes digital product perks attached to specific tiers
- **Shoutouts and custom content** becomes Direct Messages for personal interaction

For free tiers, Fourthwall supports free membership accounts that collect supporter emails and build your community funnel.

## How to migrate content from Patreon

Fourthwall does not offer an automated import from Patreon. Focus on content that drives ongoing value rather than your entire back catalog.

**Migrate first:**

- **Welcome content.** Recreate your Patreon welcome post as a Fourthwall Welcome Post at [**Memberships** > **Settings** > **Welcome Posts**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/memberships/settings/welcome-posts/?redirect)
- **Top 10 to 20 posts.** Recreate your most-engaged Patreon posts as Fourthwall members-only posts
- **Evergreen content series.** Set up Post Series on Fourthwall for recurring content (tutorials, behind-the-scenes)
- **Media files.** Download images, videos, and audio from Patreon and re-upload to Fourthwall posts

**Safe to skip:** one-off update posts older than 6 months, expired polls, and comment threads (these do not transfer between platforms).

Patreon lets you download post data from Settings > Account > Your account data. The export includes post text and metadata. Media files must be downloaded separately.

## How to communicate the move to supporters

A structured communication plan prevents subscriber loss during the transition.

- **3 to 4 weeks before launch:** Announce the move on Patreon. Explain why you are switching and what supporters gain (lower fees, merch perks, better site experience)
- **2 weeks before launch:** Post a reminder with a direct link to your new Fourthwall memberships page and a site preview
- **1 week before launch:** Post step-by-step sign-up instructions on Patreon with the direct URL and any launch promotion details
- **Launch day:** Publish a welcome post on Fourthwall, share the link on all social channels, post a redirect notice on Patreon
- **1 to 2 weeks after launch:** Follow up with supporters who have not moved. A personal message or public reminder can recover additional subscribers

Be transparent in announcements. Explain that lower platform fees let you invest more in content. Highlight new perks supporters will get. Reassure them that your content schedule will not change. Provide a direct sign-up link and offer to answer questions.

## How to set up migration promotions

Launch promotions reduce friction between canceling on Patreon and signing up on Fourthwall.

- **Free trial.** Offer a 7- or 14-day free trial so supporters can explore Fourthwall before committing
- **Launch discount.** Create a promo code for 20% to 30% off the first month
- **Exclusive merch drop.** Release a limited product available only to members who sign up during the migration window

Combining a free trial with an exclusive merch drop provides the strongest migration incentive. Supporters try the platform risk-free and receive a tangible reward.

## How to run a parallel period

Run both platforms simultaneously for 4 to 6 weeks. Do not shut down Patreon on day one.

1. Post new content on Fourthwall only to give supporters a reason to switch
2. Keep Patreon active but stop posting. Add a pinned post directing supporters to Fourthwall
3. Track migration progress at [**Memberships** > **Overview**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/memberships/overview/?redirect) and compare against your Patreon subscriber count
4. Turn off Patreon billing once migration numbers are satisfactory. Pause or delete Patreon tiers so remaining supporters are not charged

## Suggested migration timeline

- **Week 1:** Set up Fourthwall shop and memberships. Map tiers and perks
- **Week 2:** Migrate top content. Create welcome post and 5 to 10 members-only posts
- **Week 3:** Announce the move on Patreon and social channels. Set up launch promotion
- **Week 4:** Launch day. Open Fourthwall memberships. Post on all channels
- **Weeks 5 to 8:** Parallel period. Post exclusively on Fourthwall. Send reminders on Patreon
- **Weeks 9 to 10:** Wind down Patreon. Pause billing, add final redirect post, archive

## Can I transfer my Patreon subscriber list to Fourthwall?

No. Fourthwall does not support direct subscriber imports from Patreon. Each supporter needs to sign up independently on your Fourthwall page. This is why the communication plan and launch promotions are critical for retention.

## Will my supporters lose their membership history?

Membership tenure starts fresh on Fourthwall. If you use Fourthwall's member badge system, all supporters begin at the starting badge regardless of how long they supported on Patreon.

## What about annual subscribers on Patreon?

Annual Patreon subscribers have a paid commitment through their renewal date. Let their Patreon subscription run out naturally while encouraging them to sign up for monthly billing on Fourthwall. Once their annual term ends, they can switch to annual billing on Fourthwall if you offer it.

## Can I keep my Patreon page as a backup?

Yes. Many creators keep their Patreon page live but inactive after migrating. Remove all paid tiers so no one is charged, and add a pinned post with a link to your Fourthwall memberships page.

## How long does a full migration typically take?

Most creators complete the process in 6 to 10 weeks, including the parallel period. Setup (tiers, content, promotions) takes about 1 to 2 weeks of focused work.

## Does Fourthwall charge a platform fee on memberships?

No. Fourthwall charges 0% platform fee on membership revenue. Standard payment processing fees (credit card and payment provider fees) still apply. Patreon charges 5% to 12% depending on plan tier.
