Product description & pricing guidelines

This guide shows you best practices and tips for writing product names, descriptions, and setting pricing.

Names & descriptions

Once you’ve finalized your product design in the 3D product designer, you will be taken to the product details page.  This will let you create a product listing for your new item. The right-hand column will be where we input a product name, description, and price. The view you see below looks like what the fans will see when they see your product in their shop but in an editing mode.

Be sure to have some fun with your product names and descriptions! Allowing your personality to shine through will help to make the merch yours and be more meaningful to your supporters- unleash your creativity and see what works!

Note that the product name, description, and pricing are all fully editable and can be modified later if you need to think any of them over some more. The product generator will automatically add sizing and garment information (i.e., cloth material the blank is made from), so you will not need to worry about that.

Pricing

Directly underneath the product description text box, you will see the selling price field. By default, this is set at $10 more than the item’s base cost.

We recommend rounding up the default pricing as well. Not only will this give you a few more dollars in profit, but it will let you have cleaner pricing points on your site. So, in this example, $27.75 could become $30.

The profit calculator you see here tells you exactly how much you make from a sale of that item, so you input a few different prices and see what works for you. 100% of the profit displayed here will go directly to you; the only additional deduction is the payment processing fee, which is based on the total order amount. As a general rule, we recommend a selling price that gives you a profit of at least $10 or 20% per sale, whichever amount is greater. Our internal data shows that this is the sweet spot that really makes the whole endeavor worth your while!

While there is no hard and fast rule with setting pricing, try to keep things as clean as possible. Like the example above, if an item comes out to, say, $23.87 in suggested pricing, we would suggest rounding up to $25.

When setting prices, just keep those pointers in mind. Selling an item for too little will undervalue the product in the audiences’ mind, and lose you potential profit in the process. Underpriced items, even when they are of high quality, can have the opposite effect in terms of perceived value.

Generally speaking, an item with more going on can be sold for more. If a hoodie has a front, back, and one or more sleeve prints and suggested sale price of $40 or so? Go for a $50-$60 price point and see what happens! If a basic tee with a single print on it is selling for the same, you will likely have less interest in it than if it was selling for $25-$30.

Product details

After clicking Next, your product will be created, and you will be taken to the product details page. This is where you can edit the name, description, and pricing for the product listing both now and in the future.

When you click “Edit additional sections,” you will see the auto-filled garment details (materials and weight), Size & Fit measurements, and the Quality Guarantee & Returns. You won’t need to worry about editing these sections as they are always automatically filled with the corresponding product data each time a product is created.

When you are done with the Additional sections, you can return to the product listing by scrolling back up and clicking on the product title back bar.

When you are back on the main product listing edit page, scroll further down, and you will see the Photography and Design section. Here, you can rearrange the order of color options by clicking and dragging the color dots.

You can also rearrange or delete the product images as well as upload any new ones you have created (as an example, professional photoshoots of you wearing the garments are always a great way to generate hype for the item).

The last step to take is to make your product live! By default, products are hidden, so you can keep in-progress listings secret. When your masterpiece is ready for the world, simply click the yellow “Hidden” button in the top right corner, select “Public,” and save!
