Discounts and promos are a great way to entice new supporters to join your membership. It can also be used to reward your top fans or those that purchase merch from you. You can use them in many ways that help you promote your membership and incentivize joining.
There are three types of discounts you can do with memberships:
- Introductory price discount - This is an automatic discount for new subscribers to join. Intro discounted price shows up directly in the tier view, so it grabs the supporter’s attention; no manual promo code is required. This is set on the tier level, and it applies to everyone who signs up for the first time to the respective tier.
- Promo code - Unlike introductory price discounts, this one does not show up automatically and requires the supporter to add the promo code during checkout to receive the discount. This is a great way to give specific supporters a unique discount, email supporters who previously purchased from your shop with a discount code, etc.
- Twitch discounts - Great way to incentivize Twitch supporters to join your membership. This allows you to give a discount as long as the member has an active Twitch subscription to your channel. If they unsubscribe from your Twitch channel, they also lose this perk and get charged the regular tier price automatically. You can read more on Twitch discount here.
Note: By default, both the introductory price discount and promo codes will apply to new members and existing members upgrading to a higher tier. If you want only to allow promo codes for new members, you will have the option of selecting that while creating your promo code.
When setting discounts or promo codes, you have the following options:
- You can set any percentage discount value between 1% and 100% - both on a monthly subscription and annual
- You can set a different percentage discount value for monthly and annual subs (e.g., 100% off first month, 20% off first year)
- You can set a different percentage discount value for each tier (e.g., 100% off Bronze tier, 50% off Silver tier)
There are two small limitations when it comes to discounts or promo codes:
- Discounts or promos are limited to one billing period (i.e., first month or first year), so multiple-month or multiple-year discounts are not possible.
- Setting a limit on promo code usage is not available yet (in the roadmap for development)
