The upselling feature allows you to offer a free month of memberships with shop purchases!
How does it work?
When your supporters spend a certain amount at your shop, they will be presented with the option to add a free month of a selected membership tier during checkout (promotion applies only to new members).
When your supporter claims the promotion, the membership tier is automatically applied to their order at a promotional price ($0 for the first month), and the auto-applied discount available for members of this tier is instantly applied to the order.
If someone doesn’t meet the minimum order value requirement, we’ll automatically let them know about it, along with a specific amount. This helps increase the cart value and increase your potential profit.
Once the order is complete, the member account is automatically created (based on the email used for the order), a “View members area” button is shown on the order status page (see image below), and an account creation confirmation email is sent to the supporter to finalize the details and create a password. The payment method used during checkout is transferred to the membership account for future renewal and can be accessed by the supporter via their account settings in their profile.
How do I set it up?
To enable upselling on your website, within your dashboard, go to Memberships → Settings → Shop upselling.
Once there, select the “Offer free month of memberships with shop purchase” checkbox and set the following two details.

Membership tier - choose the membership tier for the promotion (if you have a multi-tier setup, we recommend selecting one of your lower-priced ones)

Minimum order value - the minimum order value required to be eligible for the promotion (e.g., $25)
Once the above is set, just save the settings, and that’s it! Upselling should start appearing on your shop checkout.
Note: At the moment, you cannot adjust upselling settings once there’s at least one person using the promotion. To make adjustments (or disable the promo), please email us at support@fourthwall.com for assistance.
Once you have enabled upselling promotion, it is a great moment to announce the promotion to your supporters so they are aware of it and as a way to drive traffic to your shop.
Members-only discounts
To make the upselling offer effective and appealing, we recommend setting auto-applied shop discounts for members of the selected tier (e.g., 5% off on the entire order for Silver tier members). You can learn more about discounts for members in this article.

Is the promotion banner displayed to supporters who don’t meet the minimum order value criteria?

Yes! We display the information about the promo along with the exact amount that needs to be added to the cart.

Can the promo be used by existing members?

No, the promotion is available to new members only. The idea is to encourage new members to explore your membership and become permanent paying members. If we detect an email associated with an existing member account, your supporter will be notified during the checkout about not meeting the promo requirements.

Does the upselling promo support multi-currency?

Yes! The minimum order requirement will be automatically converted to a local currency. However, since multi-currency is not yet supported in Memberships, the tier price will be presented in USD at all times.

Can I edit or disable the promotion?

Is the member account automatically created once the order is made?

Yes! Once the order is fully paid, the member account is automatically created, and the membership is active. The supporter will get an email to prompt them to create a password.

Is the payment method automatically transferred to the new member account?

Yes! We automatically transfer the payment method used in the order, so the recurring payment will be automatically triggered at the end of the free month (until canceled). However, for purchases made with PayPal, the payment method is not transferred, and such users will be prompted to add a payment method manually in their Billing tab.
