Why does Fourthwall need my credit card information?

This article explains why and how we use your credit card information to give you more control over your account

You can now add a credit card to Fourthwall to give you more flexibility in how you manage your shop. Adding a payment method to your account allows you to create a promotion plan that works for you (including discounts and giveaways links). It also allows you to ensure a seamless experience for your supporters by avoiding blocked transactions when a promotion incurs negative profit that exceeds your account balance.

Learn more about how to add and manage your payment methods in our quick start guide.

When will I be charged?

Your default payment method will be charged when a transaction results in negative profit that cannot be covered by your shop’s balance. For example, when a promotion or giveaway link is claimed and your current shop balance cannot cover the full amount without going negative.

Can I control whether I’m charged or not?

When you add a payment method, you have the option of setting a monthly charge limit. The monthly charge limit is the maximum amount your shop will be charged during a calendar month. Any transactions that would result in your limit being exceeded will be blocked to protect you against accruing a significant negative balance.

What if I don’t have a credit card (or don’t want to add one to my account)?

There is no requirement to add a credit card to your account. We’ll block transactions that take your account balance below zero, so you never need to worry about going negative.

What types of transactions will be blocked?

If you have not added a credit card to your account, transactions will be blocked when they incur a negative profit that exceeds the negative balance limit on your account. If you do choose to add a credit card to your account and set a monthly charge limit, only transactions that would take you past that limit will be blocked.

Is it safe to add my credit card to Fourthwall?

Yes. All payment information is stored securely via Stripe. Stripe is a certified PCI Service Provider Level 1, the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. Fourthwall will never store or share your credit card information. For more information on Stripe Security, click here.

Why can’t you use the account I have linked for payouts?

To maintain the highest levels of security and keep you in control, the account information you used to set up payouts are only authorized to pay out your shop balance monthly. For charges, we require a separate form of payment that is authorized for covering transactions that incur a negative account balance.

How frequently will you charge me?

You will only be charged when a transaction would result in a negative account balance.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept all major credit cards  (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover) and debit cards issued from major credit card companies (i.e. debit cards with a Visa logo).

How will I know if I’ve been charged?

In addition to seeing it on your Fourthwall dashboard and in your credit card statement (labeled as “Fourthwall”), we will email you any time you’re charged or a transaction is blocked.

What should I do if my payment method is rejected?

If your payment method is rejected and you are using a valid credit card from a major credit card company or co-branded debit card, contact your card issuer for assistance. If you confirm that the action was not blocked by the card bank, please contact support@fourthwall.com for more help.

What should I do if my payment fails?

If your payment method fails, update your credit card details or add a new credit card. If you continue to have issues processing a payment, please contact your card bank for assistance.

If your payment method fails, certain transactions will be blocked to protect you from exceeding your account’s negative balance limit until a valid payment method is available. You will receive an email notifying you of the blocked transaction with steps to update your credit card details.
