This article covers income reporting to the IRS via the Form 1099-MISC
Why does Fourthwall need to report my income?
If you are a U.S.-based creator and received at least $600 in payouts from Fourthwall during the calendar year, we are required by law to report your income to the IRS. This is done via Form 1099-MISC, which outlines the amount earned within that calendar year.
Note:
- Only individuals who are U.S. citizens will receive a Form 1099-MISC from Fourthwall
- All other types of legal entities (corporations, partnerships, LLCs, international creators, etc.) are responsible for reporting their taxes by consulting a tax accountant.
What is a Form 1099-MISC?
Form 1099-MISC is an informational return used to report income paid to individuals who are not employees. Platforms like Fourthwall are required to produce this form when eligible creators meet the reporting threshold.
This form is important because it shows income you earned from sources like sponsorships, freelance work, or creative payouts—anything that doesn’t come from a regular employer. It’s different from a W-2, which reports traditional employee wages.
If you’ve earned over $600 through Fourthwall during the year, you can expect to receive this form. It helps you keep track of your income and makes tax filing more accurate and transparent.

How is my Form 1099-MISC amount calculated?
The amount reported on your form is based on actual payouts issued during the calendar year, not necessarily the income you earned during that time.
Example: If you earned profits in December 2025, but the payout was issued in January 2026, that income will appear on your 2026 Form 1099-MISC, not the one for 2025.
Who will receive a 1099-MISC?
As stated, you will receive a 1099-MISC if you meet both of the following conditions:
- You are a U.S.-based creator
- You received $600 or more in payouts during the 2025 calendar year
If you don’t meet both criteria, you won’t receive a 1099-MISC from Fourthwall. Stripe Connect automatically determines this based on your payout history and the tax information on your Stripe profile.
When will I receive my Form 1099-MISC?
1099-MISC Forms will be ready by January 31st. They will be available via your Stripe Connect dashboard.
I meet the threshold, but I don’t see my 1099-MISC in Stripe. What should I do?
Check that your personal details are up to date, including your full name, address, and any required tax information.
Let's say you've updated your information after January 18, 2026, and still haven’t received your form; your 1099-MISC will be issued by March 31, 2026. In the meantime, you can view your payouts and earnings in the Billings and Payouts settings of your dashboard.
