General Product Safety Regulation for the EU

What is the General Product Safety Regulation for the EU?

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is a new regulation in the EU for product safety legal requirements, which came into effect on December 13, 2024.

The GPSR requires that all consumer products sold to EU residents be safe and requires specific obligations for sellers to ensure this. This specifically applies to non-food products.

Does this apply to me?

Yes, however, you only need to worry if you sell your own sourced products on Fourthwall and have customers in the EU who purchase your product.

For any products from Fourthwall's catalog, no action is needed as we will automatically add all required information to your product listings.

I sell my own sourced products on Fourthwall. What do I need to do?

You need to ensure your product listings comply with the new regulation by including:

  • Manufacturer’s contact information - This includes:
    • Your shop name
    • Contact email - you can use your Fourthwall shop unique support email
    • Postal address - you can use Fourthwall's: PO Box 5696 Santa Monica, CA 90405
  • Any relevant product details
  • EU warranty - EU law stipulates that you must give the consumer a minimum 2-year guarantee. Read more in the FAQ section of this help article
  • Product safety and compliance information like warnings and safety details

Fourthwall has updated the relevant product information for products in our product catalog and any listings from these items. So you only need to handle this if you sell your own sourced products on your Fourthwall site.

How do I update my product listings?

We recommend adding this information within the "More details" section of your listing by following these steps:

1. Within your Fourthwall dashboard, go to the product listing you need to update

2. Under Product details you will find "Edit additional sections", click there to continue

We recommend updating your listings as soon as possible to ensure full compliance. Staying up-to-date with the latest EU regulations and any policy changes will help keep your store running smoothly and maintain trust with your customers in the EU market.

FAQs:

How will the two-year warranty be honored?
You, as the seller of your self-sourced items, are responsible for the warranty, as per Directive 1999/44/EC. This means you must provide a refund or replacement within 2 years for faulty goods, or goods that don’t look or work as advertised. For example, an over-worn item with a new defect wouldn’t count as faulty. See Consumer guarantees for more information.

What will safety information or labels include?
The information on labels and in product descriptions will differ from product to product. For your own self-sourced items, you will need to ensure that the information conforms to the laws in the EU.
