Want your shop or product pages to show up on Google? We’ve got your back.
Fourthwall automatically takes care of most of the technical SEO work behind the scenes, so you don’t need to be an expert to get started. But if you’re looking to take your shop’s search visibility to the next level, here’s everything you should know.
✅ What Fourthwall does automatically
We follow all modern SEO best practices. That includes:
- Indexing: Your shop and product pages are set up to be discoverable by search engines like Google.
- Structured Data / JSON-LD: We add hidden data behind the scenes that helps Google understand your content (like product name, price, availability, etc.).
- SEO tags: Basic meta tags are automatically generated and optimized.
- Google Merchant Center compatibility: Your product pages are built to work with Google’s shopping tools.
You don’t need to enable any of this manually; it’s all built in by default.
🔑 Adding keywords to help SEO
While we handle the technical part, content still matters.
If you want to target specific search keywords, the best thing to do is write clear, keyword-rich product descriptions. For example, if you’re selling a “limited edition fan art hoodie,” be sure to include that exact phrase in the product title or description.
Here’s what else you can do:
- Edit meta descriptions - You can add a custom meta description on every custom page. This overrides the default description and gives you control over what search engines show.
- Use the Advanced section - Within the site designer, go to Style > Edit code (advanced). In this section you can add custom <head> code, like <meta> or <keywords> tags. (Note: These tags have little impact on SEO today, but can still be useful in specific cases.)
- Test your structured data - If you want to check how your data appears to Google, try this Rich Results Test tool. We provide structured data for both your homepage and individual product pages.
🙋 Common Questions
Can I add keywords to the backend of my shop (like hidden tags)?
Not directly. Today, SEO is mostly based on page content, not hidden fields. The best way to target keywords is to include them naturally in product titles, descriptions, and page content.
Can I embed a collection of my products on another site for SEO?
Not yet, but you can always link to your Fourthwall shop from your main website. If you’re building a ‘roundup’ blog or landing page elsewhere, we recommend including links to your Fourthwall pages using keyword-rich anchor text.
Is it worth doing SEO as a small creator?
SEO can help, but it’s a long game and hard to win without a lot of traffic or paid ads. It’s still worth writing thoughtful product titles and descriptions to boost your chances.
