Highlighting clearance products through collections, homepage features, and smart merchandising
Clearance items provide an excellent opportunity to clear out inventory while offering customers exclusive deals. To enhance visibility and boost sales, it's important to know how to display clearance items strategically in your storefront. This guide will walk you through various effective options for showcasing clearance products.
Step 1 - Create a clearance collection
- Go to Products > Collections in your dashboard.
- Create a new collection called "Clearance" (or something attention-grabbing like “Last Chance” or “Sale”).
- Add the relevant products to this collection by clicking + Add products.
- Click Save.
- Enable the setting to Make this a limited-time only colletion (to create a sense of urgency) and set the start and end dates.
-
Click Save again to finish the process.
Step 2 - Feature clearance collection on your homepage
You can simply follow the instructions outlined in our help article How to add a Feature collection or Collection list section to your site.
Step 3 - Add clearance to site navigation (Optional)
- Navigate to Site design > Layout > Header.
-
Click Edit menu.
-
Add a menu link called Clearance or Sale that points to your Clearance collection.
- This makes it easy for shoppers to find discounted products from anywhere on your site.
Step 4 - Use homepage banners (optional)
- Add an Announcement bar at the top of your site with a message like “Shop our Clearance—limited stock available!”.
- Enable countdown
-
Link it to your Clearance collection.
Best practices
- Keep product descriptions accurate—mention if items are final sale.
- Use strike prices (showing both the original a.k.a., "compare-at price" and discounted price) so customers can clearly see the savings.
- Use clear naming conventions (e.g., “Clearance Tee - Red”).
- Rotate out sold-out products quickly to avoid frustration.
- Build urgency with phrases like “While supplies last” or “Limited stock available.”
