Designs, previews, and product behavior FAQs
This help article addresses common questions about how designs behave across different products in the Fourthwall catalog. These behaviors are expected and apply broadly across apparel, accessories, and other physical products.
Frequently asked questions
Why don’t my previously uploaded designs show up?
When you switch between different product types, previously uploaded artwork may not appear in the editor. This is expected behavior and can happen even when products are closely related, such as different shirt variations.
Artwork uploaded to the editor cannot currently be downloaded, transferred, or reused across products. As a result, designs may need to be uploaded again when creating a new product.
Tip: Always keep your original design files locally so you can quickly re-upload them whenever needed.
Why does my artwork look misaligned in different product views?
If your artwork appears misaligned when switching product views, color variants, or mockups, this is often due to how previews are generated. Many product previews use 3D renderings, which can visually shift or warp designs even when they are correctly positioned in the editor.
This does not necessarily mean your design will print incorrectly.
If the placement looks off, you can manually adjust it in the editor:
- Confirm whether the issue is coming from the 3D preview rather than the actual design placement.
- Click and drag each design layer to reposition it within the print area.
- Use the three dots menu on an uploaded image and select Set position to fine-tune placement using exact coordinates.
- Make sure all artwork stays within the print-safe area (shown as a dotted outline). You can use Fit to area to help with this.
- For layered designs, use Bring forward or Send backward to correct the stacking order.
If things still don’t look right after adjusting, reach out to the Support team at support@fourthwall.com so they can review the specific product and layout.
Why does the same design size look smaller/bigger on different products when previewed?
If you’re using the same artwork across different products or brands and notice that it appears larger or smaller in product previews, this is expected behavior.
Each product uses its own 3D model for auto-generated previews. Because different brands, garment cuts, and fits have unique proportions, the same artwork dimensions can appear visually inconsistent across products in preview images, even when the print dimensions are identical in the editor.
Important:
- Auto-generated previews are visual representations, not exact scale comparisons
- Identical artwork dimensions will print at the same size, even if previews look different
- There is currently no setting to "standardize" artwork appearance across different product previews
How to handle preview inconsistencies
- Adjust placement per product using Set position or Fit to area
- Rely on print-safe measurements in the editor for final print accuracy
- Upload custom mockups if consistent visuals are critical
- Go to Products > All Products (then click on your product) > Photography and design to upload and reorder images
If preview differences still feel misleading, contact support@fourthwall.com and include screenshots and product links.
