Migrate From Patreon to Fourthwall Memberships

Updated April 16, 2026

Move your Patreon community to Fourthwall with a clear plan and zero downtime

Switching membership platforms can feel like a big leap, but with the right preparation, you can move your Patreon community to Fourthwall Memberships without losing momentum. This guide gives you a concrete plan: map your tiers, migrate your content, and bring your supporters along for the transition.

note

This guide assumes you already have a Fourthwall account. If you haven't set up Memberships yet, start with the Memberships quick start guide and come back here once your basic structure is in place.

Why creators move to Fourthwall

Here are the key differences that bring creators from Patreon to Fourthwall:

  • Unified platform. Sell merch, digital products, and memberships from a single shop. No need for separate tools.
  • 0% platform fee on memberships. Fourthwall charges no platform fee on membership revenue (standard payment processing fees still apply). Patreon charges 5% to 12% depending on the plan.
  • Built-in merch fulfillment. Offer physical products as membership perks without managing a separate Print-on-Demand (POD) provider.
  • Full shop customization. Your membership page lives on your own branded site with a custom domain, not on a third-party marketplace.
  • Integrated community tools. Direct messages, locked messages, member badges, and post series are all built in.
  • You keep your data. Fourthwall gives you full access to your supporter list, analytics, and content at any time.

Step 1: Map your Patreon tiers to Fourthwall tiers

Start by listing every Patreon tier you currently offer, including the price, perks, and number of active patrons at each level.

For each Patreon tier, create a matching Fourthwall tier:

  1. Go to Memberships in your dashboard.
  2. Click Create tier.
  3. Set the tier name and monthly price to match your Patreon tier.
  4. Add the same perks using Fourthwall's perk system. See Perks: A guide to rewarding your members for the full list of available perk types.
  5. Repeat for each tier.
tip

Consider simplifying your tier structure during the move. If you have 6+ Patreon tiers, this is a good time to consolidate. Creators who run 3 to 4 tiers see stronger conversion because supporters spend less time comparing options.

Perk mapping reference:

  • Early access content maps to tier-locked posts with scheduled publishing
  • Discord roles maps to the Fourthwall Discord integration (tier-based role assignment)
  • Physical merch rewards maps to members-only products, which are a built-in perk type on Fourthwall
  • Polls and voting maps to members-only posts with engagement features
  • Monthly digital downloads maps to digital product perks attached to specific tiers
  • Shoutouts and custom content maps to Direct Messages for personal interaction

For free tiers, see Free membership accounts and tiers to set up a no-cost entry point that collects supporter emails and builds your community funnel.

Step 2: Migrate your content

Fourthwall does not offer an automated import from Patreon. You will need to manually recreate your key content. Focus on the material that drives ongoing value, not your entire back catalog.

What to migrate first:

  1. Pinned or welcome content. Recreate your Patreon welcome post as a Fourthwall Welcome Post. Go to Memberships > Settings > Welcome Posts to set one up.
  2. Top-performing posts. Export your 10 to 20 most-engaged Patreon posts and recreate them as Fourthwall members-only posts. See Memberships posts for formatting and visibility options.
  3. Evergreen content series. If you run a recurring series (tutorials, behind-the-scenes, commentary), set up a Post Series on Fourthwall to keep them organized.
  4. Media files. Download images, videos, and audio from Patreon and re-upload them to Fourthwall posts. Fourthwall supports all major media formats.

What you can skip:

  • One-off update posts older than 6 months (these rarely drive new sign-ups)
  • Polls with expired deadlines
  • Comments and discussion threads (these don't transfer between platforms)
note

Patreon lets you download your post data from Settings > Account > Your account data. This export includes post text and metadata, though media files must be downloaded separately.

Step 3: Plan your subscriber communication

Your supporters need to know about the move, and they need a reason to follow you. A clear communication plan makes the difference between retaining most of your community and losing subscribers in the shuffle.

Recommended communication timeline:

  • 3 to 4 weeks before launch: Announce the move on Patreon. Explain why you are switching and what supporters will gain. Be specific about what stays the same (content cadence, perks, community) and what improves (lower fees mean more investment in content, merch perks, better site experience).
  • 2 weeks before launch: Post a reminder with a direct link to your new Fourthwall memberships page. Share a preview of your Fourthwall site so supporters can see the new home.
  • 1 week before launch: Create a final Patreon post with step-by-step instructions for signing up on Fourthwall. Include the direct URL and mention any launch promotion you are offering.
  • Launch day: Publish a welcome post on Fourthwall, send the link on all your social channels, and post a final redirect notice on Patreon.
  • 1 to 2 weeks after launch: Follow up with supporters who haven't moved yet. A personal message or public reminder post on Patreon can recover 10% to 20% of stragglers.

What to say in your announcement:

Keep it honest and creator-first. Supporters respond better to transparency than corporate language.

  • Explain that Fourthwall lets you offer more value because platform fees are lower
  • Highlight any new perks they will get (merch discounts, exclusive products, better site experience)
  • Reassure them that your content schedule and community will not change
  • Provide a direct sign-up link and offer to answer questions

Step 4: Set up migration promotions

A launch promotion helps bridge the gap between canceling on Patreon and signing up on Fourthwall. Offering an incentive reduces friction and rewards early movers.

Promotion options:

  • Free trial period. Offer a 7- or 14-day free trial so supporters can explore Fourthwall before committing. See Memberships free trials, promos, and discounts for setup instructions.
  • Launch discount. Create a promo code for 20% to 30% off the first month. This works well for supporters who need a nudge.
  • Exclusive merch drop. Release a limited product available only to members who sign up during the migration window. This is a perk type unique to Fourthwall that Patreon cannot match.
tip

Combine a free trial with an exclusive merch drop for the strongest migration incentive. Supporters try the platform risk-free and get a tangible reward for making the switch.

Step 5: Run a parallel period

Do not shut down your Patreon page on day one. Run both platforms simultaneously for 4 to 6 weeks to give every supporter time to transition.

During the parallel period:

  1. Post new content on Fourthwall only. This gives supporters a clear reason to switch.
  2. Keep your Patreon page active but stop posting. Add a pinned post directing supporters to your new Fourthwall page.
  3. Track migration progress. Check your Fourthwall Memberships > Overview dashboard to monitor new sign-ups and compare against your Patreon subscriber count.
  4. Turn off Patreon billing. Once you are satisfied with your migration numbers, pause or delete your Patreon tiers so remaining supporters are not charged for a platform you no longer update.

Suggested migration timeline

Here is a complete timeline from planning to completion:

  • Week 1: Set up your Fourthwall shop and memberships. Map tiers and perks.
  • Week 2: Migrate your top content. Create your welcome post and at least 5 to 10 members-only posts.
  • Week 3: Announce the move on Patreon and social channels. Set up your launch promotion.
  • Week 4: Launch day. Open Fourthwall memberships to the public. Post on all channels.
  • Weeks 5 to 8: Parallel period. Post exclusively on Fourthwall. Send reminders on Patreon.
  • Week 9 to 10: Wind down Patreon. Pause billing, add a final redirect post, and archive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer my Patreon subscriber list to Fourthwall?

No. Fourthwall does not support direct subscriber imports from Patreon. Each supporter needs to sign up independently on your Fourthwall page. This is why the communication plan and launch promotions are critical for retention.

Will my supporters lose their membership history?

Membership tenure starts fresh on Fourthwall. If you use Fourthwall's member badge system, all supporters begin at the starting badge regardless of how long they supported you on Patreon. See Custom member badges for badge configuration options.

What about annual subscribers on Patreon?

Annual Patreon subscribers have a paid commitment through their renewal date. We recommend letting their Patreon subscription run out naturally while encouraging them to sign up for monthly billing on Fourthwall in the meantime. Once their Patreon annual term ends, they can switch to annual billing on Fourthwall if you offer it.

Can I keep my Patreon page as a backup?

Yes. Many creators keep their Patreon page live but inactive after migrating. Remove all paid tiers so no one is charged, and add a pinned post with a link to your Fourthwall memberships page. This catches any supporters who return to Patreon looking for you.

How long does a full migration typically take?

Most creators complete the process in 6 to 10 weeks, including the parallel period. The setup itself (tiers, content, promotions) takes about 1 to 2 weeks of focused work.

Does Fourthwall charge a platform fee on memberships?

No. Fourthwall charges 0% platform fee on membership revenue. Standard payment processing fees (credit card and payment provider fees) still apply. This compares to Patreon's 5% to 12% platform fee depending on plan tier.
