Control Eli Storefront Design Changes
Updated August 1, 2026
Prompt Eli to restyle your storefront, then preview or undo the changes it applies
Eli can change your storefront design directly when you ask it to. Fonts, button styles, and your heading scale are all fair game. Because Eli can apply these edits on its own, a clear prompt keeps you in control of exactly what changes.
What Eli can change in your storefront
You can ask Eli to restyle your storefront through the chat panel in your dashboard. Eli can update design settings like:
- Fonts. Swap your heading or body font for a different typeface.
- Button styles. Change the font, shape, or appearance of buttons like Add to Cart.
- Heading scale. Adjust the size relationship between your headings and body text.
Eli reads your existing design for context, including your current fonts and layout, and infers what you want from there. A single prompt can trigger several changes at once. If you ask Eli to update your buttons, it may adjust the font, size, and spacing together rather than one property at a time.
Important: Eli may apply design changes right away, without a separate confirmation step. Preview your storefront after prompting Eli so you can see what changed before it reaches customers.
Write a specific prompt
The words you use decide how much Eli changes. A precise prompt limits Eli to one edit. A vague prompt gives Eli room to make several changes on its own.
- Specific: "Change the Add to Cart button font to Archivo Expanded." Eli changes that one property and leaves the rest of your design alone.
- Vague: "Improve this." Eli interprets the intent from your current design and may restyle fonts, buttons, and heading scale together in one pass.
To stay in control, name the element and the exact change you want:
- Name the element (the Add to Cart button, your heading font, your body text).
- Name the value (a specific font like Archivo Expanded, a size, a style).
- Ask for one change per prompt when you want tight control.
If you want Eli to make broad design decisions for you, a prompt like "Improve this" works well. Just expect several changes at once, and preview the result before saving.
Preview Eli design changes before they go live
Design edits Eli applies show up in the Site Designer, the same place your manual design changes live. Preview them there before they reach customers.
- Open Site design in your dashboard.
- Click Preview to see your storefront with Eli's edits applied.
- Review the fonts, buttons, and heading scale Eli changed.
The preview shows exactly how your site will look to customers. Nothing is live until you save.
Undo unwanted Eli design changes
How you undo an Eli change depends on whether you've saved it yet.
- Not saved yet: Click Discard in the Site Designer. This removes all unsaved edits, including the ones Eli applied, and reverts to your last saved version.
- Already published: Make new edits to set the design back the way you want, then click Save again. Saving publishes the corrected version to your live site.
For a safety net before you prompt, duplicate your theme first. A copy preserves your current design so you can return to it if Eli's changes aren't what you wanted.
- Go to the Themes page in the Site Designer.
- Click the three-dot icon next to your active theme and select Duplicate.
- Prompt Eli on your active theme, knowing the copy holds your original design.
Discard only removes changes you haven't saved. To undo changes that are already live, make new edits and click Save again.
Frequently asked questions
Does Eli ask before applying a storefront design change?
Not always. Eli may apply fonts, button styles, and heading scale changes right away, without a separate confirmation step. Preview your storefront after prompting to see what changed.
Why did Eli change more than I asked for?
A vague prompt like "Improve this" gives Eli room to interpret your design intent and make several changes at once. Name the specific element and value you want, like "Change the Add to Cart button font to Archivo Expanded," to limit Eli to one edit.
How do I undo a design change Eli made?
If you haven't saved yet, click Discard in the Site Designer to remove all unsaved edits. If the change is already live, make new edits and click Save to publish the corrected version.
Can I back up my design before prompting Eli?
Yes. Go to the Themes page, click the three-dot icon next to your active theme, and select Duplicate. The copy keeps your original design so you can return to it.
