Import a Printful Blank for Additional Production Methods

Bring in a Printful blank when a production method you want is not in the Fourthwall product editor

Most Fourthwall on-demand products use Direct-to-Garment (DTG), Direct-to-Film (DTFx), or flat Embroidery. Printful's wider catalog includes a few production methods that the Fourthwall product editor does not list, like 3D/Puff Embroidery. If you want one of those methods, Fourthwall support can import the Printful blank into your shop so you can sell it like any other on-demand item.

Why some production methods are not in the product editor​

The Fourthwall product designer maps to three Printful technique types: DTG, Embroidery, and DTFx. These cover the vast majority of apparel and accessory blanks Printful offers. A few specialty techniques live in Printful's catalog but are not exposed in the embedded designer, so they don't show up when you create a product from the Fourthwall side.

3D/Puff Embroidery is the most common example. It's a blank-level attribute on Printful's side: a particular hat or beanie SKU is set up for puff stitching, and the technique is configured by Printful, not chosen in the designer. Because the technique is tied to the blank rather than to the design tool, it can be sold on Fourthwall once the blank itself is added to your catalog.

The Fourthwall product editor will not change the production method on an existing product. If you want a different technique on a blank you already use, you need a different blank, not a different setting.

When to import a Printful blank​

Import a Printful blank when all three of these are true:

  • The product or blank exists in Printful's catalog.
  • The production method you want is configured on that Printful blank.
  • The same blank or technique is not available in the Fourthwall on-demand catalog.

Common cases include:

  • 3D/Puff Embroidery on hats, beanies, or dad caps.
  • Niche garment styles or colorways that Printful carries but Fourthwall does not yet list.
  • Specialty accessories Printful offers that don't appear under the standard production method filters in the Fourthwall catalog.

If the blank you want already shows up in the Fourthwall catalog with the production method you need, you don't need to import anything. Use the standard product creation flow instead.

How to import a Printful blank​

Importing a Printful blank is a manual setup step handled by Fourthwall support. You provide the Printful product details, and support adds the blank to your shop so you can design and sell it like any other on-demand product.

Step 1: Find the exact Printful product you want. Go to printful.com and locate the blank, color, and size range you plan to offer. Note the product name and the production method (for example, "Flexfit Snapback with 3D/Puff Embroidery").

Step 2: Confirm the method is missing from the Fourthwall editor. Go to Products in your dashboard, search for the same blank, and check the Production method filter. If 3D/Puff Embroidery (or your method) is not listed, this is the right path.

Step 3: Email support@fourthwall.com with:

  • The Printful product URL.
  • The exact blank name, color, and size range you want.
  • The production method you need (for example, 3D/Puff Embroidery).
  • The artwork you plan to use, or a description of the design.

Step 4: Once support imports the blank, it appears in your Products list. Open it, add your design, set pricing, and publish like any other on-demand product.

Trade-offs vs. the native Fourthwall catalog​

Imported Printful blanks behave like Fourthwall on-demand products at checkout, but a few things differ from items in the native catalog.

  • Fulfillment timeline. Production runs through Printful directly. Most Printful on-demand items ship within 2 to 7 business days of order placement, similar to Fourthwall on-demand timelines, but the exact window depends on the blank and the production method. Embroidery and 3D/Puff Embroidery typically take longer than DTG.
  • Cost. Base costs follow Printful's pricing for the imported blank, which can be higher than equivalent items in the Fourthwall on-demand catalog. You set your own retail price, so the higher base cost narrows your margin unless you raise the price.
  • Catalog parity. Imported blanks won't carry the Fourthwall Signature badge or other catalog-level labels, even if a similar Fourthwall product would.
  • Method availability in the designer. The production method is fixed on the imported blank and cannot be changed inside the Fourthwall product designer. Treat the technique as part of the blank, not a setting.
  • Variant updates. If Printful adds new colors or sizes to the blank later, those updates don't sync automatically. Reach out to support if you want the imported blank refreshed.

Order a sample of any imported Printful blank before publishing it. Specialty techniques like 3D/Puff Embroidery look noticeably different from flat embroidery, and a sample lets you confirm the stitch height, density, and finish match what you want customers to receive.

What happens after the blank is imported​

The imported blank shows up in your dashboard as a normal on-demand product. From there you can:

  • Add or replace artwork in the product designer.
  • Set retail prices, variants, and visibility.
  • Apply the same shipping options Fourthwall offers for Printful on-demand products, including Super Rush delivery where supported.
  • Track orders alongside the rest of your on-demand inventory.

Frequently asked questions​

Which production methods are available natively in the Fourthwall product editor?​

The embedded Printful designer supports DTG, Embroidery, and DTFx. Other techniques, including 3D/Puff Embroidery, are blank-level attributes on Printful's side and are not selectable inside the Fourthwall designer.

Do I need a Printful account to import a blank?​

No. You don't connect a separate Printful account. Fourthwall already integrates with Printful behind the scenes, so support can pull the blank into your shop directly.

Can I switch an existing product to 3D/Puff Embroidery?​

No. The production method is fixed at the blank level. To sell a product with 3D/Puff Embroidery, you need to import the specific Printful blank that uses that technique, then create a new product on top of it.

How long does it take support to import a blank?​

Turnaround varies based on the request and the blank. Send the Printful product details to support@fourthwall.com and the team will confirm timing.

Will an imported blank cost the customer more?​

The customer pays whatever retail price you set. The base cost from Printful affects your margin, not the customer's price. Specialty techniques and premium blanks often have higher base costs, so review the cost in your dashboard before publishing.
