Add a gallery section to your site
Updated September 7, 2026
The Gallery section lets you display a collection of images on any page of your Fourthwall site. You can show images in a grid layout or as a horizontal slider, and visitors can click any image to view it full-size in a built-in lightbox.
Use a gallery to showcase your work, highlight products, share behind-the-scenes photos, or display any visual content that supports your brand.
Add a Gallery section
-
In your Fourthwall dashboard, go to Site design > Layout.
-
Use the dropdown at the top of the left panel to select the page where you want to add the gallery.
-
Click (+) Add page section to open the section picker.
-
Find Gallery under the Layout category.
-
Click Add. The section appears at the bottom of the page and its settings open automatically.
Upload images to the gallery
In the section settings panel, click the image upload area to add your photos. You can upload multiple images at once. Once uploaded, images appear in the gallery in the order you add them. Drag to reorder them.
Choose a display mode: Grid or Slider
The Gallery section supports two display modes.
Grid: All images display at once in a multi-column layout. Use the Grid control in the settings panel to set the number of columns. More columns show smaller images; fewer columns show larger ones.
Slider: Images display in a horizontal carousel that visitors can scroll through. This works well when you have many images and want to keep the section compact.
Select your preferred mode from the Display options in the settings panel.
Set the aspect ratio
The Aspect ratio setting controls how images are cropped within the gallery. Choose from the available presets, such as square, portrait, or landscape, to keep your gallery consistent regardless of the original image dimensions.
If your images all share the same proportions, any preset will look clean. If your images vary in size, picking a fixed aspect ratio ensures a uniform grid.
Use the lightbox
When the lightbox is enabled, visitors can click any image in the gallery to open it full-size in an overlay. From the lightbox, they can navigate forward and backward through the entire gallery without closing it.
The lightbox is on by default. You can turn it off in the section's settings panel if you prefer images to stay in place when clicked.
For the best results, upload images that are at least 1200px wide and use a consistent aspect ratio across all photos. JPG and WebP formats load fastest. Avoid uploading images larger than 5 MB each; compress them first to keep your page loading quickly.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a Gallery section to any page?
You can add a Gallery section to your Home page, product pages, and collection pages using the full section picker. Custom pages support a smaller set of sections, so if the Gallery option does not appear in the picker on a custom page, that page type does not support it.
How many images can I add to a gallery?
There is no hard limit on the number of images. That said, adding a large number of high-resolution images can slow down your page. For best performance, aim for fewer than 30 images per gallery section, and compress your files before uploading.
Is the lightbox on by default?
Yes. The lightbox is enabled by default for every new Gallery section. You can turn it off in the section settings panel at any time.
